About the bookBraiding Sweetgrass, Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants - an extraordinary book written by Robin Wall Kimmerer - asserts that plant life has been our oldest teachers, and continue to teach us about life, beauty, hardship and change. Robin covers issues about language, colonization, purpose, and sustainability. From Muskrat Magazine, “Braiding Sweetgrass contains too many marvelous gems of wisdom to do justice to in a small review but to close let me leave you with a simple yet profound notion that is transformational for me every time I reconnect with it: “… all gifts are multiplied in relationship”. What more can I say? If you want your mind blown and your spirit expanded check out Kimmerer’s book.”

About the facilitators
Graham (he/his) is in ministry with the folx at Jubilee United Church in Burnaby, the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwxw̱ú7mesh speaking peoples. Reading has often been one of his favourite activities and sharing thoughts about the books just makes it that much better. Here are a few other things about him and book study:
|
Deb is a newcomer to PMRC and is working with the fine people of Shaughnessy Height United Church in Vancouver, who live and work on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh people.
Deb is an avid reader, has a deep love for radio/podcasts and stories – and is excited about this particular faith study because: "As a life long learner, I love learning from others, every story has a hint of wonder, the natural world is a complete language of 'awe' in itself, the story of reconciliation and right relationship is inside each of us, and I love to be surprised by unintentional opportunities for growth and transformation." |
